It is all a big LIE

So, the little guy began sleeping through the night.   Aaaaah.  Finally, the part where we can rest our souls.  Nope.  Big guy (age 3) immediately took up post.  Nightly, he becomes crazy agitated screaming and crying and twisting in poltergeist/exorcism fashion at around 1 a.m.  This continues for hours.  We are unable to know if he is asleep or awake for this.  It is both stressful and sad to find ourselves to be of no comfort. The cool thing is he doesn't remember it in the morning.

The other cool (no, really cool) thing about feeling too tired to produce anything near quality:  I don't have to.  Because JennyPenny made my day when she nailed it in:  Dear Block-Buster Parents. Find your quality reading here compliments from The Momplex.  Here, she, as always, delicately but shrewdly calls bullshit on lame parenting. I heart you, Jenny.  Enjoy.

  1. I went and read her post and totally agree! You really wonder what some parents think.

  2. I'm headed over there now...

Sorry to hear your little guy is freakin' out in his dreams. Trinity went through that as well, around the same age. They were soooo bad that I asked my doctor about them. He said they're called "night terrors", and that she would outgrow them.
It apparently comes on when their little minds are developing faster than their ability to express and comfort themselves.
I would literly have to hold Trinity down so she wouldn't fling herself off the bed. It went on for months, then suddenly stopped.

  3. I am warm and fuzzy from the flattery. Thank you. Sure does sound like textbook night terrors over there. I've seen them, and they're wild. Need an exorcism? No, really, there's some good advice on the Net about them. Thanks again for the nice words and link!

  6. Don't you just wonder what's going on in those little heads at night? I hope it doesn't continue!

  7. My son does this sometimes too ... I think they are called night terrors. You have to almost forcibly wake them up to make it stop. Freaky, isn't it?

  8. Oh hon I am so sorry about your little guy's night terrors. I think they are almost as scary for the grown-ups as the kids. Especially since after a couple of nights you are so damned tired you don't know what is going on either. They do go away, like Michele said. It is just terrible while you have them. I have heard you are not supposed to wake them up - but maybe ask the ped. just to make sure. Hope you get sme sleep soon and are back to your seld again. It sucks to feel all out of place and exhausted. XOXO

  10. You're having a rough time at the moment eh? My kids are 19, 17 and 13, and I can tell you it gets better.

Well at night-time it gets better. During the day you worry about contraception, college fees, grades, nutrition, boy/girlfriends, and money.

    But it's worth it.

  12. My kids are going to Catholic tomorrow. Do you want me to ask people there about this "condition"? Get some of those water? You can put it in a SuperSoaker. Would be fun!

In all seriousness, sorry about that.

Your thoughts are welcome here. As long as they are kind. Or maybe just not unkind.
