Regarding play dates:
Which is preferable....
1) To have children who are easy and pleasing to be around AND be the high-maintenance mom who is tolerated purely for the sake of the kids?
2) To be the "fun" mom who's cool to talk to, with irksome children?
As the uptight freakazoid, I prefer the agreeable vibe amongst the little ones.
I have reason to believe that generally, being "fun mom" is inextricably linked to having pain in the ass children.
I do not credit nervous, white-knuckle parenting for peaceful children.
I'd like to hear from you. Are you either of these moms? Or are you option 3, the perfect combo? Which is your preference for a day at the park: cool mom or cool kids? I hope you will share the benefit of your thoughts and experiences.
In the midst of divorce, now, more than ever, my children look to me. "They look to me to see how merciful and generous I am in good times. They look to me to see how strong and faithful I am in bad times. They watch, they listen, and they model. Years from now I want my children to remember a childhood lived well, with a mother who was loving, consistent, devoted, funny, disciplined, playful, and totally present and emotionally available."(Kristin Armstrong)
