Wutter yuhgunna do?

Me:  Bert, it is a new year and you are three now.  So, today when you need to go poop, would you like to use your blue potty or mommy and daddy's big white toilet?

long and pensive pause given to Bert's deliberation

Bert:  I will just poop in my white diaper, Mommy.

Me:  sigh, laugh, smile, hug

And, as yucky as poop diapers are, I do feel sadness just thinking of no more diaper changes.  Similar to  breastfeeding(which still gives me the heebie jeebies).  My heart ached as I knowingly nursed each of my boys for the last time. Is it weird that they were five?  Kidding.  Barely a year.

  1. I too felt a pang of sadness when she stopped using diapers as well (sniff)
But the breastfeeding was a total disaster right from the start. I was glad to give that up. (does that make me a bad mom??? ) I wonder? LOL

May he poop in his pants for as long as you need him too!!! ;)

  2. I am going through the same thing right now. The only motivator has been being able to go to school with her big sisters!

  3. Well Michele,
THAT does not make you a bad mom. I wished I could say this to you in person. So, you could hear the suggestive tone behind the word THAT. Meaning, "that instance" in particular is not what makes you a bad mom:) Maybe it is only funny in person when you can see my face and know that I am just taking advantage of an opportunity to goof you. xox

Or maybe it is not funny ever..

  4. I just stopped using diapers and I find it is totally cramping my couch potato style...having to get up and poop and all.

  5. It sounds as though you have stopped using diapers for yourself. If so, I think it was a good move even if it does cramp your CP-ways.

  6. Damn, A Vapid Blonde is ON to something. I think adult diapers will compliment my fine dinner of Ensure quite nicely...

  7. I wept when I stopped nursing Miles and this one I think I may nurse until she goes to high school since I am just SO flippin' sad! Diapers however, I believe I will joyfully say goodbye to! Miles is having almost zero luck with the potty and now I will have to give up a little I think :) I will now be surrounded in poopy diapers - now I am sure you don;t want that love huh? Feel better knowing the nastiness and sheer number of poopy diapers that are about to surround me.

Blogging makes you stop and think about a lot of these Milestones which is great because you will remember them but also makes you reflect on many moments.

He is losing his dipes and becoming a little man - that is what is so exciting and so heartbreaking.

Good luck with that big shiny white potty!

  8. I'm still breast feeding my daughter and she is 16 months. The hilarious part is that I said I would only do it for 6 months. Oh, and I never produced enough milk to breast feed her exclusively. How the heck am I going to ween myself?

  9. Bert is awesome.

I was thinking about the same thing today, looking down at my toddler and realizing that diaper days were almost completely over. Money-wise that makes me happy. And I won't actually miss the act of wiping her by any stretch.

But there's just something so official and grown up about it...

  10. Ooooh, I never thought of the financial rewards of potty training. Which is interesting because for the first 2 years I calculated the 37cents per diaper with each change which I think averaged like 10 times per day for those 2 years. I feel rich already, like I have won the lottery. Must go shop.

  11. If there is one thing I learned from my experiences potty training is that you can't make them do it before they are ready. And they are ready, they will just do it and it will be easy!

he insists on peeing in the toilet and pooping in a diaper. ready or not ready? ready and willing?

no hurry at all and no intent to force him

  14. As great as it is to get them potty trained, it was so easy to just let them do the poops and pees in the diapers!

  15. I never did the little potty thing with my kids, as I sure didn't want to clean it out.. flushers were invented for a reason. We did have a little seat that we stuck on the big toilet though as we figured falling in wouldn't make for a good experience.

  16. Well, i bought this portable one that use large ziplocs, to avoid icky gas station or park restrooms. yes, sharing disinterest in cleaning little poopot. this is very cool and he loves to carry it and did initially poop in it 3 times because he enjoyed setting it up. here is the link. http://www.onestepahead.com/catalog/product.jsp?productId=361755

  17. When you are seriously potty training, on some days you will seriously miss the diaper. Especially when you child squatted down in the middle of a store and decided to make a big one right then and there... Yup. Diapers are really not that bad after all...

  18. Seriously, when my husband and I went to a newborn class about what to expect after birth the pediatrician told us that some moms DO breastfeed until the kid is 5. Like for "comfort." The kid wants to take a nap and needs the boob. Weird.

  19. I had no trouble giving up the diapers but did have a few mild anxiety attacks when stuck in traffic and someone had to "go"!!

  20. that is just fucking sick. a child should not grow to an age where he will be able to recall nursing from his mother, i feel

  21. He'll eventually wind up back in those white diapers as an old geaser... why not just let him stay in them his whole life? He could be a trendsetter. Right? Diapers are totally hott.
